CIAP Member Spotlight: Orlando Pastore, Advisor (Owner) of Pastore Business Solutions

Helping small businesses think ahead
This CIAP Member Spotlight introduces Orlando Pastore, Advisor (Owner) of Pastore Business Solutions. His focus is small business finance and strategy, and his career has moved through public accounting, corporate accounting, and corporate finance.
That progression shaped a clear interest: entrepreneurship and helping small business owners. Orlando launched Pastore Business Solutions to bring “large company financial expertise, sized for the small business owner.”
It’s a thoughtful way to describe the purpose behind his work: bringing financial expertise to the needs of small businesses. For owners who are focused on building their businesses, finance and strategy are important parts of planning for what comes next.
A career shaped by different perspectives
Orlando began his career in public accounting, then progressed through corporate accounting and corporate finance roles. Each stage brought him closer to his interest in entrepreneurship and supporting small business owners.
His decision to launch Pastore Business Solutions brought those interests together. The firm’s focus is small business finance and strategy, with a purpose he sums up in a memorable phrase: “large company financial expertise, sized for the small business owner.”
That balance matters. Small businesses have their own needs and priorities, and Orlando’s stated goal is to make financial expertise relevant to the people running them. His work is rooted in a straightforward idea: owners deserve support that fits the scale of their business.
Learning from an early-career setback
Orlando describes an early-career setback as a turning point that changed how he thought about the future, learning, and personal growth. He shared:
“An early career setback put everything into perspective for me. I learned that nothing can be taken for granted and that I always needed to be thinking ahead and thinking strategically about the future.”
He also reflected on what the experience taught him about his own potential:
“It also taught me a lot about myself and that I am the only person that can put limits on my learning and growth potential.”
The message is direct: keep learning, stay open to growth, and don’t assume that the path ahead will take care of itself. “Nothing can be taken for granted,” Orlando says. It’s a lesson that connects naturally with his focus on helping business owners think strategically about their finances and their future.
Advice for business owners: consistency and data
When asked what advice he would share with business owners, Orlando offered two practical reminders.
First:
“Never underestimate the exponential power of consistency and incremental improvements.”
Progress doesn’t always arrive in one dramatic leap. Orlando’s advice points instead to the value of steady effort and small improvements over time. It’s a simple principle, but one that invites owners to keep moving forward and give consistent work room to add up.
His second piece of advice is about using data to guide decisions:
“Data doesn't lie... We all tell ourselves stories about our business and our industry, but when our stories align with the data, we can stop being reactive and start being strategic.”
The distinction he draws is useful: business owners can hold assumptions about what is happening in their business or industry, but data can help put those assumptions in perspective. When the story and the numbers align, an owner has a stronger foundation for moving from reaction to strategy.
Orlando returns to that idea in his own words:
“When our stories align with the data, we can stop being reactive and start being strategic.”
For a business owner, it’s a reminder to look closely, keep learning, and make room for a more intentional view of the future.
Italian-American heritage and working together
Orlando’s connection to his Italian-American heritage is grounded in appreciation for the generations who came before him and the traditions and lessons they carried forward. He shared:
“The generations of Italian Americans that came before us paved the way for us through hard work, persistence and grit. They instilled in us a rich history of traditions & culture that was enhanced by the lessons and experiences they encountered as Americans.”
He also spoke to what that heritage means to him today:
“Being Italian American is a constant reminder of what we can achieve when we work hard and more importantly, when we work together!”
The emphasis on working together is a fitting one for a professional community. CIAP welcomes Italian-American professionals, entrepreneurs, organizations, and businesses connected to Chicagoland.
